Sickle Cell Disease Support, Training and Monitoring Platform (PAFOVED)

Is an initiative of the Center for Training and Health Support (CEFA-Monkole) set up in January 2006 thanks to a partnership with the European Institute for Cooperation and Development (IECD), with the support of the European Union and French Cooperation.

Objective

PAFOVED aims to contribute to improving the medical and social care of sickle cell patients and knowledge of preventive measures.

Main activities

  • Organization of public information campaigns through radio and television broadcasts and newspaper articles.

  • DOCTA SS Publication: Sickle Cell Disease Information Sheet.

  • Organization of activities on sickle cell disease in collaboration with associations.

  • Organization of training sessions for associations and health personnel.

  • Implementation of systematic neonatal screening for sickle cell disease.

  • Monitoring of babies screened as homozygous and heterozygous in collaboration with the PAFOVED mobile team.

  • The care of these children with sickle cell disease in collaboration with associations to locate the addresses of those concerned and, above all, the involvement of the medical institutions concerned.
