Malaria

Surveillance of malaria endemicity and evaluation of drug efficacy for an update of the malaria control strategy.
Implemented since November 2013, the malaria project aims to study the resistance of plasmodium falciparum in the DRC. It aims to monitor the evolution of the malaria endemic and to evaluate the effectiveness of the drugs used by the populations, in order to provide elements to the National Malaria Control Program (PNLCD) to update its strategies. It received funding from the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs/France Expertise, as part of the "5%, AIDS, Tuberculosis, Malaria initiative" which complements the French contribution to the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria.
Realization
Updating the malaria control strategy in four sites in the DRC: Kinshasa Province (Kingasani Hospital and La Riviere Hospital) and Bas-Congo Province (Kimpese and Kisantu);
Strengthening surveillance of malaria endemic disease and drug effectiveness;
Strengthening the technical capacity of central structures (CHME Monkole/IRB 1-Health) and health centers through: - carrying out studies on the level of sensitivity of parasites to antimalarials and - establishing the mapping of the resistance of P. Falcifarum to antimalarials.
In total, 4,500 patients were examined, 2,794 samples processed and 20,500 analyses carried out.
