About the event

From July 12th to 19th, we successfully hosted a visit from the Novo Nordisk team to Professor Johny Mahlangu, Director of the Comprehensive Hemophilia Care Centre at Charlotte Maxexe Hospital in Johannesburg, University of the Witwatersrand, President of the South African Society of Hematology, and Ms. Carole Gatoto. The visit provided an opportunity to work together and share information on ongoing research and future prospects related to hemophilia and sickle cell disease. The team toured our facilities, including all our laboratories, automated systems, and other services related to research and training.

During the discussions, we had the pleasure of presenting to the NNHF team a registry that allows us to digitize the records of sickle cell and hemophilia patients whom we follow in various hospitals across the country. Secondly, a working session was held with the design team from the Academy of Fine Arts, including Professor Johny, Professor Tshilolo, and the IRB 1-H team. The artists presented a program based on a comic strip dedicated to raising awareness and educating the public about hemophilia, to be broadcast on all national radio stations, as well as short films that will be published on our digital platforms.
