About the event

As part of the fight against sickle cell disease, the 1-Health Biomedical Research Institute, under the direction of Professor Léon Tshilolo, organised a training session for the medical staff of the Camp Lungula National Hospital and the launch of the sickle cell disease screening campaign.

This initiative aims to improve healthcare professionals' skills in the early detection of sickle cell disease, a genetic disorder with a high prevalence in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The training covered diagnostic techniques, the importance of newborn screening, and appropriate treatment protocols.

Professor Tshilolo, a recognized expert in the field of genetic and pediatric diseases, stressed the importance of strengthening local capacities to deal with this pathology which affects thousands of children each year.
